Day + 2 Thursday

I am Kara's Mom, Lynda, doing the posting for her today. She is not feeling very well today- the chemo is starting to catch up with her. The main thing is her mouth is terribly sore. She is also very tired. This is no surprise and was expected. The GI doctor came in for a visit and has ordered TPN which is basically nutrition given by IV. This will make things easier on her GI tract. This will only be for a couple of weeks until Katina's stem cells start regenerating.
Labs are looking good. Now we just wait for those stem cells to find their way to her marrow!

Hi Kara,
I found your blog through the LLS site. I don't often go on that site anymore, but for some reason I did tonight. I think it was to learn about you. I, too, received a transplant at Vandy. I loved the nurses on 11 and the doctors helped me through some difficult times. My transplant was in 10/07 at the age of 39 from an unrelated matched donor from Europe. I am here to tell you that this is the most difficult experience you will likely have in your life, but you can get through it and when you do, you can be like me -- smiling as you pick up your kids from school and enjoying lunch with your friends. If I can be of any help (email, phone, visit), please let me know (doribrown2007@gmail.com).

Hi Kara (and family!),

Hang in there - this is the hard part but you can do it. Don't be shy or hesitant to ask for pain meds. You will get better faster if you can rest without pain.

Kara's Mom - please look after yourself too. I'm a Mom too and know that how hard it is to watch our kids go through this. To help Kara, you need to look after you too!

Kara-

I miss you! I am glad to see that you and your mom are keeping the blog up. You sounded so tired the other day when we talked. Please call whenever you feel like talking. Aaron and I are trying to plan a day for me to come see you and him to go do family stuff in Nashville, but its been hard to plan since he is not working right now due to military stuff. I hope we can drive down for the day soon! Remember that I'm keeping you in my thoughts and so is my family (Mom asks about you all the time!). They've been playing Ricky Martin on the radio a lot lately...did you set that up before you left to make me dance? =)

Hey Kara. I just wanted to let you know that I read your blog daily, and think about you often. I pray that you will feel better soon and that the transplant will be a complete success for freedom from this cancer! I appreciate you and your mom taking the time to update everyone on your condition. I hope you, baby Skylar, and your family are hanging in there. I recently found out I am expecting a little on of my own, due on August 2nd. Your baby Skylar is beautiful...I am hoping for a little girl as well. Hope to hear you are feeling much better in the next posting!

Much love,
Melissa Headrick, from the grueling days of RSCC nursing :)
